Google Maps, WhatsApp, Mails, InstaGram and what not. Unless you have free international roaming, you can’t travel without a local sim card. Phuket is no different. However, good news is that you can get a local sim card in Phuket (and Bangkok) with unlimited data for pretty cheap.

There are a few options when it comes to tourist sim cards in Thailand. However, one card that has been very useful and reliable through my various vacations in Thailand is DTAC Happy Tourist Super 4G SIM Card.

It’s generally available for 299 THB (~10USD). However, you can buy it from Klook for 50% off. And if you haven’t used Klook before, sign-up using this link to get a bonus credit of ~$4 to start with.

Another advanatage of buying the SIM from Klook is that you can directly collect it at Phuket airport. If you wish to, you can also collect it from Bangkok Airport or in Bangkok city as well. You can choose this while ordering your Thailand Sim Card.

What all do you get for $5?

The pack is probably better than any SIM Card offering I have seen in Asia. For $5 you get the following benefits:

  • 8-day unlimited 4G LTE Internet
  • 3 GB at max speed then at reduced speeds
  • Free 100 Thai Baht call credit
  • Unlimited calls among Happy Tourist SIM 299 users
  • Special international call rate via 00400

Add another week to your SIM for free

Interesting part about the package is that you get free 100 THB credit. Now, generally as tourists, we don’t have too much use for local calls. For a few that I have to, I manage via Whatsapp. So that means you still have your 100 THB credit unused at the end of 8 days.

DTAC allows you to use that credit for add-on packages. And you can easily use it to extend your Internet pack by a week. You can check the available add-on packs here.
